What is Cryolipolysis?

CoolSculpting®, “sculpting by cold” or cryolipolysis, is a system of fat destruction by cold, possible for both women and men. Coming straight from the United States, Coolsculpting® is a patented device that was created in 2008. Based on a medical method,Coolsculpting® makes it possible to atomize localized fat depositswithout the need for surgery or invasive procedures, with proven results.

CoolSculpting® technologyuses cold in a precise and controlled manner to effectively and gently target fat cells under the skin without damaging the skin. The treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen) and then die. Over time, your body naturally eliminates them and your curves gradually take shape.

All of this is done without surgery, anesthesia or even immobilization.

Not all devices are created equal. Only Coolsculpting® treatments offer the patented Zeltiq® technology that guarantees superior safety. The FDA approval and CE marking of class I validate its effectiveness and safety. It is the only machine on the market today that allows precise temperature control and thus avoids cold burns while guaranteeing results. A unique procedure for unique results, you will love your new figure.

For whom is Cryolipolysis recommended?

Cryolipolysis is recommended for people who wish to fight their excess fat, correct unsightly fatty areas and refine their silhouette on one or more parts of their body without effort. This treatment is intended for small or medium-sized areas with a normal BMC or slight overweight.

The effectiveness of Coolsculpting® is optimal on the stomach (the most sensitive area), love handles, back, hips, arms, inner thighs, subgluteal folds and saddlebags.

How is the procedure performed?

At Global Plastic Surgery in Lausanne, the first step is to identify the fatty area(s) to be treated. Then, a protective film impregnated with gel is applied. Finally, an applicator is placed on the targeted area and the temperature is lowered to around -8°C. Applicators that use vacuum suck the tissue into their suction cups. You may experience pulling, tugging and light pinching sensations. Controlled cooling is then delivered to the target area, so you may feel a sharp chill. However, this sensation usually diminishes within ten minutes as the area becomes numb. Many patients read, check email or even nap during their sessions. We also offer a SmartTV for watching TV or movies of choice. At the end of the session, the frozen area will be massaged to “break up” the fat and warm up the skin. No need to worry, the skin will return to its normal appearance after a few minutes.

Once the fat cells have crystallized, the body naturally transforms the fat and eliminates these dead cells. This process is also called apoptosis, this mechanism is natural. Indeed, every day our body eliminates altered cells in order to preserve the body from any inconvenience. Exposed to intense cold and pressure, this same phenomenon is triggered and the fat cells diminish and dissolve. When the treated cells have disappeared, it is definitive. One session is sufficientin the vast majority of cases. Sometimes 2 sessions may be necessary to treat an area.

The fatty areas that we can treat are: the belly all around, the back, the love handles, the underarms, the inner thighs, the saddlebags, the pectorals. Coolsculpting® can also be used to treat the fat rolls under the chin.

The procedure lasts from 35 minutes to 1.5 hours per treated area.

How much downtime should I expect?

Cryolipolysis is a treatment that does not require prior anesthesia. Recovery time after a CoolSculpting® treatment is usually very short. You will be able to resume your daily activities immediately after treatment.

There is no need to take time off work.

Complications are exceptional and contraindications are rare.

What results can I expect?

With more than 6 million CoolSculpting® procedures already performed, people around the world are looking better for themselves with individual treatment programs designed specifically for their bodies.

The CoolSculpting® procedure has a 95% patient satisfaction rate. Your doctor at Global Plastic Surgery will help you develop a personalized treatment program tailored to your specific goals. While some patients may experience a transformation within the first three weeks of their session, the most dramatic results usually appear one to three months after treatment.

The sooner you schedule a consultation, the sooner you'll see results in the mirror – lasting results in areas where fat persists despite weeks of dieting and hours of exercise. Talk to your doctor about whether CoolSculpting® is right for you.

What are the possible risks?

After seeing the results of the CoolSculpting® procedure, many patients take even better care of themselves. However, if weight gain occurs, it may not be limited to the treated areas, but may occur evenly throughout your body.

You may experience numbness, tingling, redness or bruising in the treated area. All of this usually disappears within a few hours or even 1 to 2 weeks depending on the symptom.

At Global Plastic Surgery in Lausanne, all possible risks and complications will be discussedextensively with you prior to your appointment. After thorough discussions with your surgeon, you will decide if the potential risks and complications as well as the benefits are acceptable to you.

What is the cost of this type of surgery?

The price of the procedure depends primarily on the area to be treated, the equipment used and the length of the treatment. The price for a session of Cryolipolysis by Coolsculpting® starts at 790 CHF.
