What are tensor threads?
The installation of tensor threads is a reliable technique, without scarring, to remedy moderate sagging of the face.
The tensor threads or suspension threads are inherited from a very old lifting technique that was used in the 1960s, the “Curling”. It used surgical sutures tied in a loop to enhance the sagging tissue. Then in the early 2000s, a Russian plastic surgeon, Dr. Sulamanidze, came up with the idea of notching the sutures for a better grip on the tissue. They have since evolved into flexible absorbable sutures with various anchoring strengths.
Indications
This treatment may be suitable for people with sagging facial areas such as the jowls, the nasolabial fold, the corner of the lip and also the dark circles under the eyelid. The most common sign for which patients request tensor threads is a slight sagging of the lower face, which occurs between the ages of 35 and 50 (in both women and men).
Patients may consult as soon as they notice the onset of sagging cheekbones and cheeks, a less defined oval or furrows that become more pronounced.
A sagging face may not be wrinkled and vice versa.
Tensor threads can be offered to older, sagging skin that refuses surgical lifting. For this treatment to be performed, the skin must still be elastic, neither too thin nor too heavy, but thick enough to hide the threads.
In all cases, you should consult your doctor. He or she will be able to direct you to the technique that is best suited to your case.
The procedure
The tightening threads will restore tension to the sagging areas of the face. They create a solid support mesh and stimulate the subdermal layer.
Under local anesthesia, the physician will insert three to four threads per cheek to correct sagging areas of the face. Their orientation depends on the type of sagging: vertical towards the jowl or diagonal towards the mouth.
The sutures are resorbed within six months in the body, which is much safer than a foreign material that would remain under the skin. A resorption reaction stimulates collagen production and maintains the tightening result for up to twelve or even eighteen months.
At the skin level, the threads cannot be seen or felt.
Post-treatment period
There is no social eviction following this treatment. However, you may feel some pain during the first few days. There may be some bruising, which can be made up, and which always disappears between 5 and 10 days. You will feel a tension that will persist between 8 to 10 days. The appearance of your face will always remain natural.
Results
The optimal effect is obtained three to six weeks later. It corresponds to a slight traction of the skin that gives excellent results, visible up to 18 months later.
Risks and side effects
During your appointment, the doctor will explain all the possible risks and complications associated with this procedure.
