Dr. Saja Scherer

Since her graduation from Leipzig medical school (Germany) in 2005, dr. Saja Scherer traveled the world to achieve excellence in aesthetic and peripheral nerve surgery. Profiting of her Asian origins, she learned in South Korea the principles of pediatric reconstruction and Asian face aesthetics thanks to several stages during medical school and early on during her career.

Research Fellowship

After her medical education, dr. Saja Scherer spent over two years in the Tissue Engineering and Wound Healing Laboratory at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (http://www.brighamandwomens.org/Departments_and_Services/surgery/services/PlasticSurg/documents/orgill.aspx?sub=8 ) and Harvard Medical School (https://hms.harvard.edu ), under dr. Dennis Orgill, professor of plastic surgery.

Plastic Surgery Training

Dr. Saja Scherer basic plastic surgery training included Germany (Heidelberg university) and Switzerland (University Hospital of Lausanne and Geneva), where she served as clinical chief for over two years. For her further specialization in aesthetic surgery and peripheral nerve surgery she trained in Italy (Dr. Botti, Salo’, http://www.villabella.it ), Belgium (dr. M. Greuse, Bruxels ), Germany (dr. Dr. Scherer certifications include the American Boards (USMLE), the European Plastic Surgery Boards (EBOPRAS), and the Swiss board of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, FMH.

Humanitarian missions

Since over ten years, she is participating and organizing medical missions in Uzbekistan with the plastic surgery team from Yonsei University in Seoul (http://www.yuhs.or.kr/en/hospitals/severance/clinic_dept/PlasticSur_dept/intro/ ), to deliver reconstructive surgeries to the population and teach local doctors the principles of plastic surgery.

National and International Academic Recognitions

Dr. Scherer published several dozens of peer review articles (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=Scherer%20SS%5BAuthor%5D&cauthor=true&cauthor_uid=26220427 ) and book chapters in plastic surgery, including a chapter in the main Plastic surgery book “Plastic Surgery” 3rd edition, 2013 BMA Medical Book Awards 1st Prize Award Winner in Surgical Specialties.

Dr. Scherer was awarded several national and international prizes and awards for her clinical and research activities, including the prestigious young investigator award (http://woundheal.org/Awards/Young-Investigator.aspx ) from the US wound healing society, the Ferdinand Tissot prize (https://www.unige.ch/medecine/fr/recherche/prix/liste, awarded for the most clinically relevant doctoral thesis) and the Felix Largiader prize (for the best presentation at the Swiss society of surgery).

Teaching Activities – National

Among Dr. Scherer’s passions a special place is teaching, this is why she holds an academic title from the university of Lausanne (private docent or assistant professor) and developed a platform for teaching surgical anatomy (www.surgical-anatomy-courses.com) to colleagues around the world, to teach how to perform safe facial aesthetic surgery and aesthetic medicine (filler and botulinum toxin).

Teaching Activities – International

Dr. Scherer participates to continued medical education (CME) of colleagues around the world organizing anatomical studies about best practices in peripheral nerve surgery each year. Among her teaching duties dr. Scherer participates each year as a visiting professor to the master in aesthetic medicine held by prof. Bassetto in the University of Padua (Italy).
