Medical and Research Education

After earning his medical degree, summa cum laude, in 2003 from the University of Padua, Italy , dr. Pietramaggiori earned a PhD degree in Tissue engineering working in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (http://www.brighamandwomens.org/Departments_and_Services/surgery/services/PlasticSurg/documents/orgill.aspx?sub=8 ) and Harvard Medical School (https://hms.harvard.edu ) under the supervision of dr. Dennis Orgill, professor of plastic surgery.

Publications and inventions

Thanks to the several years spent performing clinical and basic research, developed a scientific interest that lead to several dozen peer review publications (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=pietramaggiori+g ) including a teaching publication in the most prestigious medical journal, the “New England Journal of Medicine” (http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMvcm1301200 ). Dr. Pietramaggiori is author of several international patents, and author of several book chapters in plastic surgery including a chapter in the main Plastic surgery book “Plastic Surgery” 3rd edition, 2013 BMA Medical Book Awards 1st Prize Award Winner in Surgical Specialties.  Among his inventions to improve medical care for his patients there is a promising novel surface for breast implants, to overcome current limitations of silicone implants (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25907047 ).

International Academic Recognition

Dr. Pietramaggiori has been invited around the world in several occasions to present his clinical and basic research, which has been awarded prestigious prizes, such as the 3M-fellowship award from the American Wound Healing Society (http://www.woundhealingsocietyfoundation.org/programs/3M-Award.aspx ), and the Young Investigator Award from the European tissue repair Society (http://www.etrs.org ). For his innovative approach, Dr. Pietramaggiori was nominated by prof. Orgill (Plastic surgery, Harvard Medical school) and Prof. B. Murray (Plastic surgery, Harvard Medical school, nobel prize laureate for the first human organ transplantation) for the prestigious TR35 award, which is the annual list published by MIT Technology Review magazine, naming the world’s top 35 innovators under the age of 35.

National Academic Recognition

Dr. Pietramaggiori dedication to teaching and innovation lead to the supervision of over 25 doctoral and master thesis from medical students coming from around the world. For all his teaching and international recognition, Dr. Pietramaggiori was nominated in 2013 private docent (assistant professor) at the University of Lausanne.

Plastic Surgery Training

Dr. Pietramaggiori basic plastic surgery training included Italy (Padua medical school), and Switzerland (University Hospitals of Geneva and Lausanne), where he served as clinical chief for two years. To further specialize in aesthetic and migraine and peripheral nerve surgery, he trained under several plastic surgery masters around the world performing clinical felowships in the US (dr. Dr. Pietramaggiori continues to organize yearly anatomy courses to teach surgeons around the world the principles of aesthetic and peripheral nerve surgery (www.surgical-anatomy-courses.com). Dr. Pietramaggiori is a visiting professor of the University of Padua where he teaches in the master of aesthetic surgery. Dr. Pietramaggiori is considered a key opinion leader in plastic surgery and contributes to the development and diffusion of novel technologies to improve the outcome of plastic surgery. Volunteer Work

Dr. Pietramaggiori participates to plastic surgery missions around the world including Honduras, Pakistan (http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2006/02/winter-in-a-pakistani-medical-tent/ ) and Uzbekistan to help populations in need and train local doctors the principles of plastic surgery.
