Breast implants associated cancer: what is it?
Recently, there has been some media release about a possible cancer derived from breast implants. This cancer is called BIA-ALCL (breast implant associated-anaplastic large cell lymphoma). This cancer is very rare with only a few cases around the world and an incidence of about 1:200.000 to 1:20.000 breast implants. The occurrence of this cancer can be usually detected early and is curable, with only very rare advanced cases reported in the literature. There seems to be a relation between this cancer and breast implant infections. At Global Plastic surgery we have established protocols to prevent infections.
At Global Plastic Surgery, we are happy to discuss this issue in detail with our patients.
